Rev. Paul Mitchell - Pastor
The Rev. Paul Mitchell has previously served United Methodist churches in Rainier Beach, Snoqualmie, Edmonds, and Los Angeles. Paul began life as a preacher’s kid in South Dakota. He was an architect for 17 years in New York City and Los Angeles before responding to his vocation as a pastor. His Master of Divinity is from Claremont School of Theology, where he was awarded departmental honors in Biblical Studies as well as the Good Shepherd Preaching Award. He and Mary Eaves Mitchell met in college in Denmark and have been married since 1988. They have three children – Ian (1994), Tegan (1996), and Fay (1998). He is a social justice contemplative, a science fiction fan, and loves to cook and sing.
After a 30 year career in EMS/medical transportation, Steve moved to Vashon in 2007 when he took a job as the Facilities Manager for Camp Sealth, combining his love of helping people with his ability to repair most anything. When not fixing things at camp, Steve fixes things at the church and remodels his 1905 farmhouse. Steve has been married since 1979 to his wife, Karen, and they have a daughter, Leah, who helps him with all the fixing. If he had time, Steve would like to go sailing, golfing or traveling. However, when necessary, Steve can be content listening to music while piloting his riding lawnmower.
Karen Lomax - Treasurer
When not at her paying job as the bookkeeper for Vashon Youth & Family Services, Karen can be found in a garden. Besides her own yard, Karen tends the garden where she works and here at the church. Karen lives with Steve, her husband of 39 years whom she met when they were both in search & rescue, her delightful grown daughter and their 3-legged cat. If it is too wet outside to garden, Karen enjoys reading, making cookies and cleaning out closets.
